OUR VISION

The current vision of The Community Church is “to build a community that is excited about Jesus Christ.”

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Bible
We believe the Holy Bible, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God without error in their original writing, containing the complete revelation of God’s will for the salvation of mankind along with the divine and authoritative teachings for the Christian faith and life.  (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21)

God
We believe there is only one living and true God, the Maker and supreme Ruler of Heaven and earth.  He is holy and worthy of all honor, confidence and love.  He exists in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in divinity, and executing distinct but harmonious roles in the great work of restoring creation to God’s original intent and value.  (Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Zephaniah 3:17-18; Exodus 20:2-6; Matthew 28:19; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Hebrews 9:14; Revelation 4:11; 21:1-4)

The Person and Work of Christ
We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, born of the Virgin Mary.  He is true God and true man.  He was sinless in His life and made atonement for the sins of the world by His death.  We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into Heaven, His continual intercession for His people and His personal visible return to the world according to His promise. (Luke 1:29-35; John 1:1, 14; John 3:16; Acts 1: 9-11; Romans 3:24-25; 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:3-5; 2:24; 1 John 2:1-2)

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, equal with God the Father and God the Son.  In His relation to the unbelieving world, He convicts of sin, of righteousness and of judgment.  He reveals the truth of the Gospel to those whom God saves.  He resides in the believer to guarantee, guide, teach, and empower the believer to grow in relationship, likeness and service to Christ. (Genesis 1:1-2; Exodus 31:1-5; 1 Samuel 10:10; Matthew 28:19; John 3: 5-6; 14:16-17, 26; 16:7-15; Romans 8:14-16, 26; 1 Corinthians 2:14-16; Ephesians 1:13-14; Hebrews 9:14)

The Condition of Mankind
We believe that mankind was created very good, in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam’s sin mankind inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; and that mankind is totally unable to restore himself to God.  For this reason, God sent Jesus Christ to bring mankind back to God.  (Genesis 1:26-31; John 3:16; Romans 3:1-26; Ephesians 2:1-13)

The Salvation of Mankind
We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by God’s grace alone. One then turns from sin and turns to personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone, whose precious blood was shed on the cross for the forgiveness of sins. Such a person becomes a new creation in Christ, alive to God, indwelt with God’s Spirit, and destined for eternal life in a spiritual body.  We believe that salvation can come only through the person of Jesus Christ alone and based only on the sufficiency of His sacrifice on the cross.  (Deuteronomy 30:6; Jeremiah 24:7; Ezekiel 11: 19-20; Romans 6:11; 2 Corinthians 5:17-18; Ephesians 1:4-13; 1 Peter 1:18-19)

The Church
Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church; the Church is His body of believers.  The believers who seek and are selected based on biblical qualifications and spiritual gifts to serve as Elders and Ministry Team Leaders are given the authority to direct the affairs of the church and the ministries of the church respectively. Every believer is empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, and spiritual gifts to function for the purpose of the worship of God, the maturity of believers and evangelization of the lost.  (1 Corinthians 12:12-31; Ephesians 4:11-16; 1 Timothy 3:1-15)

The Ordinances
We believe that two ordinances have been committed to the local church: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  Christian baptism is the immersion into water of the believer to give testimony of his faith in and identification with the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The Lord’s Supper is the commemoration and proclamation of Christ’s death until He returns.  A person ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.  (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:38-42; 1 Corinthians 11:28-32; 12:13)

The End Times
We believe in the bodily resurrection of all people.  Those who trust in Jesus Christ will enter eternal life, and those who trust in themselves and not the grace of God, will enter judgment and eternal punishment.  At death, the spirits of those who belong to Christ will leave the body and go to be with Jesus Christ to await the resurrection, when they, with a changed and holy body, will be united with Jesus Christ forever in worship, new relationship, celebration and service.  (Matthew 25:46; Luke 23:42-43; John 3:16; 5:28-29; 11:25-26; 1 Corinthians 15:35-57; 2 Corinthians 5:8; Hebrews 9:27-28; Revelation 19:5-6; 22:3-4)
